Remember to Breathe

Yesterday was my first day back from a teaching trip to San Francisco where I was too tired at night to read and process emails. Still tired from the trip, hundreds of emails to read, a major project due, and my quarterly cancer checkup, I was feeling pressed. But as I waited for the doc and lab results in a treatment room I started a deep breathing exercise that immediately brought peace. Thich Nhat Hanh in his book the Miracle of Mindfulness tells us, “Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts. Whenever your mind becomes scattered, use your breath as the means to take hold of your mind again.” Today, remember to breathe.
